ANNIVERSARY IN BUDAPEST
As it was recently mine & Cameron's 4 year anniversary, I thought I'd make a blog post reflecting on the trip we took last year to celebrate our 3 years together. I was dying to visit Budapest for the thermal baths, but something about going in summer just didn't seem right. We wanted to experience a new place we'd never been before, and in temperatures my Australian boyfriend had never experienced either!
We visited for 4 days and stayed at an AMAZING airbnb. Probably one of my top 3, and I've stayed at a lot of airbnbs. Click here to see it. I highly recommend visiting during winter, especially when it snows! It snowed when we arrived and then was sunny but chilly for the rest of the trip (this was mid January). Also the airbnb was so cozy with underfloor heating and a fireplace mmmm. It was our dream apartment.
The trip was short and sweet but we managed to fit in a lot (without rushing of course!) Here's some photos of our time in this amazing city.
The Parliament Building - it's more spectacular at night! They light it up at dusk. Go across the river to see the view from there (Over the Chain Bridge - which is also pretty at night time, pictured below)
The view from the Chain Bridge is also pretty sweet! brrr.
St Stephen's Basilica.
Heroes square (or Hősök tere). Its right next to the city park ice rink too if you fancy a skate.
Make sure to head to Fisherman's Bastion for an amazing view over Budapest. We went at sunset and it was incredible!
The Szechenyi Thermal Baths was definitely a highlight. I'll never forget the feeling of stepping into the hot, steamy water when it was -10 degrees outside. It was so so amazing and relaxing. We accidentally got our hair wet and they turned into icicles! I would advise to go on a week day, early in the morning before it gets too busy! We went at 9am on a Monday and it started to get busy around 11am when we left.
Gellert Baths. They were more expensive, fancier indoor thermal baths with amazing architecture, definitely worth going to both!.
Another place that is a MUST SEE that I didn't manage to get photos of (also it could never look as good in photos as the real thing), is Szimpla Kert. It's a ruin pub and no matter what age you are, you have to see this place! It's awesome.
Foodwise, Goulash is the traditional dish which I couldn't try because it's a meat stew, but I highly recommend Menza Restaurant pictured below. I had the goats cheese salad with chips mmm.
Also Vegan Love is an amazing vegan fast food place that was absolutely delicious!! Vegan or not, anyone can enjoy something. It's really close to the Gellert Baths so we went for lunch here afterwards.
We love you Budapest!
Hope you've enjoyed this post! Let me know anything I've missed as I'd love to go back some day :)
