FOOD IN BARCELONA

June 3, 2017

I'm a big foodie, and Barcelona had some of the best food I've ever tried. There are lots of hip spots to eat and drink.. and who doesn't love tapas?! See my top suggestions below:

Brunch & Cake

This place exceeded my expectations. I’ve been drooling over their Instagram photos for far too long! We went on a Thursday morning, and waited in a queue for about 20 minutes (there is always a queue, but it’s worth the wait!). It was a hot day and we dined alfresco. I went for the matcha banana pancakes with the protein banana & cacao smoothie and Cameron had the salmon & egg bagel with the tropical juice. Both were so delicious, and my banana & cacao smoothie was to die for. We also went back another day to get takeaway drinks, but on weekends they don’t serve smoothies. Instead, I went for the banana and blueberry bomb which was delicious with coconut milk! I would go back to Barcelona just to eat here again, even though I stuffed myself until I felt sick haha. Click the title to see the menu!

Alsur Café

We headed to Alsur Café after my friend Taffy Msipa (check her Instagram here) who lived in Barcelona for 6 months recommended it. As much as I wanted the pancakes, I already had them for breakfast at brunch & cake. Cameron had the cheese burger, and I went for the sweet potato eggs benedict (In Barcelona, they called every poached egg dish benedict, but mine was vegetarian). We shared patatas bravas and I had an apple, carrot & ginger juice. Yum! Definitely recommend this place. The pancakes looked insane. We wanted to come back here but didn’t have enough time. The area where the cafe is situated is also really nice.

Bacoa Burger

Oh my gosh. This place is basically a build your own burger restaurant. You could pick which bun, fillings, extras and sides. You could also make it into a salad! Being vegetarian, it can be hard to find a tasty burger.. but the spinach chickpea patty was absolutely delicious, as were the patatas bravas ;) Once again, another restaurant I wish we had in London!

Cosmo Galeria

Cosmo is just down the road from brunch & cake. With a limited menu, it’s a good option for a quick and light lunch. With different sandwiches and salads to choose from, as well as juices, teas and coffees. The outdoor seating is on the nicest pedestrian street surrounded by trees but still in the sunshine! The weather was perfect for alfresco dining.

Flax & Kale

I had to try this place after seeing so many nice pictures! Don’t come here and expect to find burgers, fries or pasta on the menu though. Everything is strictly healthy, which is good! There is no temptation. I went for the healthy eggs Florentine and Cameron had the eggs Royale. Both were a twist on the classic dish, with healthy hollandaise sauce, wholemeal muffins, and an artichoke and roasted carrot on the side. Flax & Kale’s dishes were rich and full of flavour. Yummy!

Amarre 69

We went looking for a tapas place and came across this gem! It was Cameron’s choice. The sun was setting and we ate outside. They played good music. I got the apple, pear, spinach and citrus juice (without cucumber), and Cameron had an Aperol Spritz. The drinks were really good so we couldn’t wait for food. I don’t eat meat, so we shared a few seafood dishes and patatas bravas. Fresh grilled king prawns, shrimp croquettes and deep fried squid…. The food was amazing. Definitely recommend this place for great fresh food and atmosphere.

Makamaka Beach Bar

This was another place I couldn’t wait to try! Located near Barceloneta beach, it gets pretty crowded, but we only waited 10 minutes for a table outside in the sun. They had so many veggie options! I went for the Little Red Corvette and regular fries. Omg. The fries. The burger. Such a big portion and I ate it all! The shark bite juice was also delicious and refreshing.

Chöc – the chocolate kitchen

This place sells donuts, cronuts, and chocolate in all forms! We got there just before they were closing, and were told all the donuts were half price between 8:30pm-9:00pm. Score! We went for the strawberry vanilla, and the oreo. We also selected a few coconut balls, truffles, and chocolate covered cornflake chunks! We would have gotten more to take home but it would’ve melted :( Definitely worth trying. Drooling just thinking about it.

Rocabolesc Gelateria

Amazing gelateria. You select an ice cream base and pick three toppings out of a huge choice! (wish you could pick more). They also sell popsicles in funny shapes and ice cream sandwiches. If only we could have tried it all! I had the vanilla ice cream with butter cookie, strawberries and white chocolate sauce. Cameron had the vanilla ice cream with cacao nibs, chocolate brownie and caramel sauce. Mmmmmm.
